Yet the Shari'a contradicts the deepest premises of Western civilization. The unequal relations of male and female, of Muslim and kafir , of owner and slave cannot be reconciled with equality of rights. The harem cannot be reconciled with a monogamous order. Islamic supremacism contradicts freedom of religion. A sovereign God cannot allow democracy.
इसके बाद भी शरियत पश्चिमी संस्कृति के गम्भीर पहलुओं से मेल नहीं खाती। महिलाओं और पुरुषों के मध्य असमानता का सम्बन्ध , मुस्लिम और काफिर का सम्बन्ध , स्वामी और गुलाम का एक साथ नहीं रह सकते और न ही उन्हें समानता का अधिकार होता है। हरम एकस्त्री व्यवस्था के साथ नहीं रह सकता। इस्लामी सर्वोच्चता का सिद्धांत मजहब की स्वतंत्रता के विपरीत है। एक सम्प्रभु ईश्वर लोकतंत्र की आज्ञा नहीं दे सकता।
